↓ BEARCATS EMBRACE HIGH EXPECTATIONS IN OPENER

By: Matthew A. Anderson

Bridgeport built up a 24 point lead at halftime and cruised to a 65-38 win over their TVC-Central visitors from Shepherd.

The game looked like a season opener for both teams and like most season openers the team that plays a little better and has the talent edge may win by more than a considerable amount, exploiting the errors from their opponent. This was the case tonight as Bridgeport's press created more than 2 dozen Shepherd turnovers, leading to transition buckets and allowing the Bearcats to build up a big lead and then protect it the rest of the way.

Both of these teams met in last year's Regional Final in the tournament. Bridgeport returns several key components from that game while Shepherd is in the process of replacing a successful Senior Class. The Bearcats led by 6 points after 1 and then led 41-17 at the break.

Shepherd's offensive woes continued into the 2nd half. 4 Bridgeport players racked up double figures, with Kyle Hampton leading all scorers with 20 points and 10 boards. Derrick Davis was the total package as always, scoring 13, grabbing 8 rebounds, to go along with 5 steals and 3 blocks. Ethan Johnson and Lamont Mask had 11 and 10.

Alex Martinez and Ryan Enfield both led Shepherd with 7 points.
